Well, hello there.
Can you honestly believe that it is 2016 tomorrow? Like, honestly, take a second & consider 2015… & how SUPER fast it has just sped on by. Sigh.
And, excited for goal setting for 2016 (!!!) eeep!
Sorry for being a little MIA ( it’s Christmas, can you blame me? ). Those of you that follow me on Instagram will know that I have just returned from a Christmas in New Zealand. I took a total tech detox ( which I love to do a couple times a year ) & chilled in the mountains, swam in some lakes & waterfalls & hiked a couple mountains.
But mostly, I took a long overdue time out.
I reflected on finally realising my dream of moving to Australia & travelling to countries my Mum & Pop would only have ever seen in the movies.
Then I suddenly thought:
WELL FUCKING DONE. You put your mind to it & you made it happen. Go you!
Have you taken the time to give yourself a mental high five – you DEFO deserve it? Life is TOUGH.
I’ve got even bigger & better plans. Have you?
When it comes to New Year’s resolutions I think you either sit in one of two groups:
- Never make them – total waste of time
- Love the vitality that goal setting breathes into your life
Which one are you?
Goal setting & resolutions can be so bizarre! One sec you’re totally into it & have so much energy invested in finally reaching them this year – NO MATTER WHAT. Then work & family & friends & life & more work get in the way & by the time you reach this day next year, you’re wondering what the hell happened!
Well, this year is your year & I’m going to tell you how to reach your goals rather than end up scratching your head wondering where the year went.
Three top tips to make shit happen:
You are a work in progress
People are so obsessed with being something or having something that they don’t give a lot of consideration to how they get there & what happens after they have reached their goal. Basically, this causes a lot of heartache if 1) you don’t reach your goal – for obvious reasons 2) you reach your goal & think, ok what now?? You suddenly realise that you forgot to enjoy the process & usually find yourself having to set another goal to overcome post goal blues ( kinda like post holiday blues or post dessert blues… – I know you know where I’m coming from ).
Habit change instead of goals
So many people ( me included ) have these big goals that they would love to reach but have no idea of how to get there. And, thinking of making a plan to get there can be overwhelming & confusing. So, it’s easier to get to where you want to be ( a positive ) by changing a habit you already have ( a negative ) bcus that is usually what it comes down to, isn’t it? Drinking more water instead of champagne, having a nutritious breakfast instead of a muesli bar etc. Going cold turkey on a habit usually means relying on willpower which isn’t always the easiest thing to do long term. You need a back up plan.
I am a firm believer that you achieve goals in one of two ways: 1. Self Love 2. Self Loathing. You either beat yourself into submission & guilt yourself into your goals or you love yourself enough & believe that you deserve to achieve your goal. One is sustainable, can you guess which one? The other is usually just the reinforcement of other people’s opinions of us ( which don’t mean a damn thing btw – believe me ).
When you combine these three aspects into your year, you will reach your goal & you will enjoy doing it.
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I just need something visible & tangible to get me started in the right direction. Do you know what I’m saying?
So, I’ve put together this really, really simple & printable goal setting planner ( well, actually habit changer but, hey ).
I’m a firm believer in the ‘work your F-ing ass off to get to where you want to be but have fun while doing it-mantra.’ So, this worksheet will be super helpful but it isn’t a miracle worker – you have to be the one to put the work in to achieve your dreams!
Print this off as many times as you need to for each goal. Stick them on your wall or refrigerator door – hell, take a picture of each goal on your mobile & rotate them as your daily background. That’s what I love to do! I’m the kind of person that needs constant reinforcement & refreshment when sticking to my goals.
Expect more of yourself than what society dictates. Set goals for yourself, bcus if you don’t, who will? You deserve to feel that overwhelming proudness that comes from putting your mind to something & finally achieving it.
Ok, ok. Enough ranting from me! TELL, what are your resolutions for 2016? I’d LOVE, LOVE to know. I might even get some super inspiration for my own 😉
Peace out 2015 – it’s been real.
